Rita Capuchina: Singing with Fire, Heart & Ánimo
Rita Capuchina doesn’t just perform — she ignites. An independent singer/songwriter and magnetic lead vocalist, she co-founded Ánimo in San Angelo, and together they deliver the kind of high-voltage, multi-genre live show that turns venues into dance floors and strangers into lifelong fans. With seamless transitions across Tejano, cumbia, and heartfelt ballads, Ánimo creates experiences that are equal parts electric and deeply moving.
Having shared stages with Tejano icons like Jay Perez, Sunny Sauceda, Stefani Montiel, Elida Reyna, AJ Castillo, and Yahari — and rocking festivals across Texas and beyond — Rita brings more than 20 years of stage-honed fire. After lighting up cover bands for years, she stepped into her own spotlight in 2022… and the Tejano world noticed immediately. Her songwriting comes straight from the soul: love, resilience, hope, and the beautiful mess of real life. The result is fresh, authentic, and full of proof that it’s never too late to chase your dreams with everything you’ve got.
In August 2025, Ánimo released their debut album Que Haces — a powerful 10-track statement (nine originals + one cover) produced at ShellShockRecords3 by Tejano legend Shelly Lares and LMD. Rita co-wrote alongside acclaimed songwriters Jose Rosario Gonzalez and Shelly Lares, pouring real-life chapters into every note.
The road to the album wasn’t easy. Originally planned for 2024, it waited while Rita answered a deeper call — temporarily relocating to care for her elderly parents through serious health challenges. She lost her mother in January 2025 but treasures the extra time they had together. That love and strength run through every song.
Standout tracks tell the story:
- “Con Ánimo” — her first cumbia, written as a love letter to her two children. It’s become an anthem of unconditional love, encouragement, and lifelong support.
- “Juguete En Tus Manos” — the emotional first single that captures the moment you find the courage to walk away from a love you once believed was “the one.”
- The title track “Que Haces” — a soaring, uplifting anthem inspired by Rita’s son, who at just 14 suffered a life-changing stroke. Sixty days of hospitalization and years of recovery later, his unbreakable spirit became the heartbeat of a song that tells everyone listening: Never give up.
Three singles from the album hit #1 on multiple radio countdowns. “Juguete En Tus Manos” became her longest-running hit (19 weeks on the charts), while “Con Ánimo” held strong for 14 weeks. In total, eight of Rita’s songs have climbed the charts — building a passionate, loyal fanbase that can’t get enough of her voice and message.
