About Henry Merchant
Henry Merchant is a rising Texas country and southern rock singer-songwriter whose music moves between slow, heartfelt ballads and loud, driving rockers. From San Antonio by way of Norman, Oklahoma, he has quickly built a reputation for powerful vocals, honest storytelling, and an energetic live show.
Merchant’s earliest musical memory was seeing the Heartless Bastards at San Antonio’s Sam’s Burger Joint as a kid. Years later he played his first show there the day after high school graduation, opening for The Droptines in front of more than 200 people. The Droptines took him under their wing early, and his debut EP Rucker’s Revival (2023) documents that period of cutting his teeth in legendary Texas dancehalls. Influences range from John Prine to Microwave, giving his catalog a wide emotional and sonic range.
On Spotify he has roughly 42,000 monthly listeners. His biggest tracks are “Silly Old Me” (nearly 1 million streams), “Record Player,” and “AnnaBeth.” He followed Rucker’s Revival with the 2024 EP Dance With the Horns and released his debut full-length album Tomorrow in May 2026. The record includes fan favorites such as “Wasting Clay” (the first complete song he ever wrote) and tracks like “Tulsa,” “I Got a Gun,” and the title cut.
He currently performs with a tight four-piece band (lead guitarist Matthew Ely, bassist Mason Queen, and drummer Colin O’Grady) and has opened sold-out shows at Gruene Hall while regularly playing rooms across Texas and Oklahoma. Described by early supporters as “the future of country music,” Merchant brings a mix of Red Dirt grit, southern rock energy, and personal songwriting that connects with both dancehall crowds and late-night listeners.
